Church is not supposed to be that way!

September 12, 2010 (Sunday) – 10:08pm

Every Sunday, my mother and I always go to church. We used to go to San Pedro Church before when we were still living in Sandawa. But now that we have transferred to another house, we have no choice but to choose the nearest church in our place which is Santo Lala (church name not real for privacy).

When we first went there for a Sunday Mass, I was quite amazed because the altar is placed in an open garden. Lay people are friendly and they smile a lot as compared to the other churches I have been through. My mom and I sat down nearest to the altar so that we could get a nice look to what is going on in-front.

The Holy Mass started and all went out alright—at first! When homily comes, it was just humorous to see that one of the Altar boys, about sixteen to seventeen years old, obviously naps on his seat. Some people including us may be the only people who notice it, but it was just disturbing to see that even part of Santo Lala Church is doing the “greatest sin”, although frequently witnessed with people attending but not with Altar boys, during homilies.

That was quite bearable since it doesn’t really hurt people. Let us just say that it is his “personal sin”. The greatest disappointment that I have ever witnessed with this church is yet to come. They have double collections. The first one is for Mass offering which is common in all churches. But the second one is not quite common at all. They have second collection every Sunday for the construction of Santo Lala.

Yes, I can see changes in the ceiling and some paint jobs; but I just can’t believe that those quite handy jobs cost more or less two million pesos. It says on their financial report (yes, they announced their financial report at the latter part of the Mass) that they have already spent two million pesos for the construction and they need money to pay the debts from where they got the two million pesos.

It was quite a corruption scenario in our naked eyes. It was quite disappointing to see that people are still going back to attend Mass and, of course, to support the said construction. They still give some financial help to pay the debts of the construction of the church—and we are one of them.

When will these scenarios of corruption stop? Corruption will kill our Nation. It should be stop, but how?
